The LaserWriter 8 Patch enables the Setup button in the Chooser at all times, adds the N-up printing menu to the Print dialog box, and adds more choices to the N-up menu itself. The Disable n-up Borders patch will prevent the "borders" of the pages from printing when you have 2 or more logical pages printed on one physical page.
Applying the patches to your LaserWriter driver is a simple process. Here's what to do:
1. Reboot your Mac, holding the SHIFT key down to disable all extensions.
2. Double–click on the patch program to open it.
3. Open a copy of your LaserWriter 8.3, 8.2.2, or 8.2.2f driver from the dialog
box.
4. When prompted, pick a name for the patched version of the driver. The
dialog defaults to a different name than the original.
5. The patch will be applied, and you will be able to quit the application.
6. Drag the patched driver over your System folder and release the mouse;
go ahead and let the system put the driver in the Extensions folder.
7. Reboot your system, select the patched driver in your Chooser, and test!
These steps work for both the LaserWriter 8 Patch and the Disable n-up Borders patch. For the most flexibility, make two "patched" copies of the driver—both will be patched for n-up printing, but only patch one of these to diable the borders. Then you can turn the borders on and off by selecting the different drivers from the Chooser.
